The Denver Nuggets and the Dallas Mavericks do battle at the American Airlines Center on Friday night.
The Denver Nuggets have been in fine form as they’ve won five of their past seven games overall, but they will be hoping to bounce back here after falling just short to the Knicks in a 106-103 loss on Wednesday. Jamal Murray led the way with 21 points, nine rebounds and six assists, Bones Hyland added 21 points off the bench while Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Zeke Nnaji each scored 13 points.
As a team, the Nuggets shot just 43 percent from the field and 14 of 38 from the 3-point line as they did well to build a 10-point lead in the third quarter, only to let it slip in the fourth quarter where they managed just 19 points. Still, it was a decent effort from the Nuggets who were without Nikola Jokic for this one.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks have been in decent shape as they’ve won six of their past nine overall, but they will be looking for a better performance here after falling short to the lowly Rockets in a 101-92 loss on Wednesday. Tim Hardaway Jr. led the team with 28 points off the bench while Christian Wood added 26 points on nine of 22 shooting, but no other player finished in double figures in scoring.
As a team, the Mavericks shot a season-low 30 percent from the field and 12 of 55 from the 3-point line which was still enough to hang in the contest until the fourth quarter. Spencer Dinwiddie had a rough night as he scored just nine points on three of 18 shooting while Frank Compazzo scored just three points on one of seven shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nuggets are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games, 5-0 ATS in their last five games following a loss and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. The Mavericks are 0-7-1 ATS in their last eight home games, 0-6 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record and 1-10-1 ATS in their last 12 games overall.
Head to head, the Nuggets are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and the Nuggets are 4-9-1 ATS in the last 14 meetings in Dallas.
The Nuggets will again be missing Ish Smith, Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray while Aaron Gordon is listed as questionable with an illness, while the Mavericks are at full strength except for Maxi Kleber who is still sidelined. The Nuggets are coming into this one with plenty of winning momentum, but they are just so banged up at the moment, so it’s hard to see them competing on the road in this spot. Give me the Mavericks to bounce back into form with a win and cover here.
