Hurricane Otis is Battering Mexico. Will It Bring Rain to Arizona?

Hurricane Otis made landfall in southern Mexico early Wednesday, but the tropical storm won’t create any rain chances for Arizona.

The Category 5 hurricane was expected to continue impacting southwest Mexico with 40 to 80 mph winds and heavy rain that could create flash flooding through Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Urban areas were expected to flood, with mudslides in areas of higher terrain before the storm starts dissipating Wednesday night.

The hurricane remained too far south for it to reach Arizona, according to Tucson-based National Weather Service meteorologist Kiera Malarkey.

Phoenix will stay cool and dry with no chance of precipitation. Wednesday’s high will be in the mid-80s and a nightly low of 63 degrees, according to the weather service.
