West Virginia Woman Who Was Violently Attacked During Crime Spree Remains in Critical Condition

A woman who was violently attacked during a crime spree in Nicholas County on Sunday remains in critical condition as of today, according to State Police Major Jim Mitchell.

Katherine Greathouse was attacked in her home near Summersville with a hammer. The suspect, Dustin Dale Young, has been charged in the attack and is currently being held at Central Regional Jail.

According to court documents, Young targeted the Greathouse home because she had allegedly provided him with drugs of poor quality. Mitchell stated that there was an existing relationship between Young and the victim, and that Young had intentions of going to her residence.

While en route to the Greathouse home, Young stole two vehicles and caused three car accidents, one of which resulted in the death of Nettie Volunteer Firefighter Brody Hanna. It is still under investigation what caused Young’s impairment at the time of the crime spree.

Hanna’s funeral is scheduled to take place on Saturday afternoon in Nettie.

The investigation into the crime spree is complex, involving multiple victims, multiple crime scenes, and various charges. All investigations are still ongoing.
