3 Men Disappear During Fishing Trip Off Georgia Coast: ‘We Are Sick to Our Stomachs,’ Family Says

Authorities are searching for three men who disappeared during a fishing trip off the coast of Georgia.

The search began shortly after the owner of the fishing vessel Carol Anne told authorities that the crew failed to return on Wednesday as scheduled, according to a news release from the United States Coast Guard on Friday.

The owner of the 31-foot vessel said that although the crew — identified by the Coast Guard as Dalton Conway, Caleb Wilkinson and Tyler Barlow — sometimes “extends fishing trips to maximize their catch,” he was “growing concerned due to their last communication with the crew being six days ago.”

Since the trio was reported missing, authorities have been searching for the vessel about 80 miles off the shore of Brunswick, the Coast Guard said.

Dalton and Tyler are professional fishermen and regularly take these kind of trips, but the outing was a first for Caleb, Stevie Conway, Dalton’s sister and Caleb’s girlfriend, told CBS affiliate WJAX-TV.

“It’s absolutely terrifying,” Conway told the station. “We are sick to our stomachs.”

Two people reported seeing the Carol Anne on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, according to First Coast News.

However, the communication device onboard the boat has been down since Saturday, WJAX-TV reported.

Additionally, one of the rafts on board the boat has a sensor that goes off should it hit the water, per the outlet. So far, it hasn’t gone off.

“We’re just continuing to stay positive throughout all this and hoping that the Coast Guard calls us with some kind of good, positive news at some point,” Conway told the outlet.
