Family members say a Florida father died Sunday while saving his children from an electrified fountain in Jupiter.
WPBF reports Nate Davenport, 45, and his three youngest kids were at Harbourside Place to enjoy the splash pad over the weekend when it became clear something was wrong.
“The kids starting screaming: ‘We’re getting shocked — we’re getting shocked,'” said Nate’s mother, Mary Davenport. “And so he rushed in to save them.”
Davenport grabbed his boys from the fountain. He and other bystanders were shocked while trying to rescue the children.
Three children, including Davenport’s 8 and 11-year-old sons, were rushed to the hospital, along with Davenport and another adult.
Davenport never regained consciousness and died.
“He took a hit for his kids. We had 45 years with him. God blessed us with him. He’s an amazing man,” said Mary Davenport. “He’s loyal. He’s a good father. He’s a great husband. He loves Jesus. And yeah, he gave his life for his kids.”
His family has been left devastated.
“And we obviously know that he did exactly what we would expect him to do. And you know what any father would do, hopefully, but him, especially just his character, that’s what he was,” said brother-on-law Mike Bishop.
